An Open Letter to Dianne Feinstein

Dear Senator Feinstein,

I know that I don't live in your state anymore (for which I am grateful), but the decisions you make and the changes you attempt affect people all over the nation, not just those that elected you.

I know you hate guns. You've hated guns for years. Guns can be used to do terrible things, like kill innocent children. (Not nearly so many as the Planned Parenthood abortion mills you so dearly love, but that's another letter.) You like to claim that so-called "assault weapons" are useless for "self-defense, hunting or target shooting," as though those were the only possible reasons for the Founding Fathers to create the Second Amendment.

A quick google search would disabuse you of this notion.

The Founders fought against a tyrannical ruler, imposing his will from a far away throne. They used the best technology available at the time to free themselves from his rule, and as a hedge against the re-imposition of that rule, or the threat of a despot taking control from within, they gave us  the Second Amendment, which allows the citizens to keep and bear arms, which right shall not be infringed by the Federal Government.

Today, we Americans find ourselves besieged by a Federal Government overstepping its bounds, whether legislative, as through the unConstitutional imposition of a federal health care mandate, in the middle of the night, through deception and political malfeasance, or by Imperial fiat via Executive Orders from a President who recognizes no legal limits to his power, or via a Supreme Court which interprets the law according to their ideology and desires, rather than the letter and intent of the law.

Many among us fear the time is near when our beloved nation, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave,  will no longer be worthy of the title, and will take arms against its citizens in an attempt to subdue them and coerce them to submit to the national will. I pray this time never comes, but can no  longer avoid the belief that it is possible.

I don't need assault weapons to defend myself or my family. I can use my handguns or  my shotguns for that. I need assault weapons to defend against a superior force of similarly armed assailants come to deprive me of the Rights Given to me by God, and guaranteed to me under the Constitution. In short, I  need assault weapons to defend me from YOU.

Sincerely,

Arik

  1. Beautiful. I can't understand why people who profess to be experts in politics can't understand the intent of the 2nd Amendment. It's ridiculous. You should send this letter.

  2. I think so, too, but Ndnd is afraid they come grab our guns...

  3. Ok. I'll plagiarize it and send it with my signature. I don't have any guns for them to take. Yet.

  4. In fact, if anyone else wants to send a copy, under their name, I would not have a problem with that.

I'm still considering it. Kind of cowardly, really.

    1. I doubt that. You certainly don't sound cowardly.

    2. Perhaps I will send it. Looks like Ndnd agrees that it's worthy.

And Les, I know I should get that reference, but it's eluding me at the moment...

  5. I love this, Arik! Of course, I love everything you write ;) She owns guns herself and surrounds herself with armed protection, and yet does not want to allow US to own guns to protect our families. What a hypocrite! How does she explain Chicago, which has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and yet has one of the highest crime rates? Criminals don't obey gun laws. Why punish law abiding, resposible gun owners? Our forefathers were brilliant, and the 2nd Amendment was, and still is, vitally important for the citizens of this great country. There is tyranny all around us, and we have the right to defend ourselves from it. Arik, this IS definitely worthy of sending, and one of your best posts! I just like to fly under the radar :)

    1. Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Always beware of people who say they only want to do what's best for you, especially when they're from the governmeny.

Ronald Reagan said the nine scariest words in the English language are "I'm from the governmentand I'm here to help."

Missus, we could use a man like Ronald REEEEAAAAAAgan, again!

    2. I read, obviously the Chronicles of Narnia, and most of his Science fiction trilogy, but it sort of lost me halfway through the third nook.

    3. C.S. Lewis is one of my all-time favorite authors. His Space Trilogy was great. I also had trouble reading through That Hideous Strength the first time, but when I got older I read it again and it turned out to be the best of the three books. He even tossed a bit of Arthurian legend into the story.

    4. Well, we're in the same boat then. It took me several starts, over many years, to get through "That Hideous Strength". Talk about a departure from the theme of the series! But still, worth the read.

Oh and Arik, loved the letter! Until she bans me I will continue to enjoy directly bashing Feinstein on Twitter (a guilty pleasure - Twitter I mean, not bashing her, you understand).

    5. Thank you!

Oddly,a "third book" that took me years and several starts to finish, was "The Return of the King." I loved the first two but couldn't slog my way through the third until after the first LOTR movie came out.

  6. Thank you for summarizing my arguments for joining the NRA last week. I posted my action to my Facebook page, and the attacks commenced. When will people see that the Second Amendment is the only true defense of our liberty we have against tyranny? By the way, those folks who were attacking my actions could not provide a single argument supporting their "common sense gun control" stance.

    1. I was a member of the NRA for two years, before I even had weapons. I let it lapse for financial reasons, but I'm considering starting back up again.
