Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I've bet you've heard the expressions "blue-eyed beauty" and "blue-eyed bride". If you're a woman with blue eyes in America, you've got it made. All kinds of positive messages about having blue eyes. Brown eyes are no different. There's a sweet familiar song by an Irish band, Van Morrison, called "Brown Eyed Girl". Every woman with brown eyes gets the luxury of believing that she's the desirable one he's singing about. Lucky brown-eyed ladies!
But what happens if you're like me?? What's the only thing that comes to mind when you hear the phrase: "green-eyed...??" Yep. You're right. Green- eyed MONSTER. Nice.
America is so racist.

What's wrong with being a green monster, be it the eyes or otherwise? I posted on this very site pictures of a boy who happened to have both a desire to be a scary green monster and a sister with food coloring. Monsters are AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI don't wanna be a monster. Pout. :(
DeleteWell, there's always https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_DydKnpDsk
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard that one. Apparently if you're on enough acid, green eyed ladies aren't so bad, huh? :)
DeleteAnd there's these guys, the song apparently inspired by Natalie Imbruglia, and the lyrics are a little more obeisant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lce-nvuF6NA
DeleteThat's more like it! :) Thanks, Les.
DeleteWhat's wrong with green? There are a lot of good green things, like green peppers and green jello with carrots and walnuts....
ReplyDeleteJust wait. Tomorrow morning you will know EXACTLY how your comment made me feel. YOU BIG SNOT!!!!!!!!!
DeleteIt's not easy being green...
