So I never figured myself for much of a beach-y girl. I'm not an avid swimmer, and my lily white skin means I singlehandedly keep the sunscreen companies in business.
But this summer, I've fallen in love.
I found a lovely, quiet, peaceful stretch of beach with soft sand, soothing breezes and cool water. And now I've got it bad. :) I took this pic about 2 hours ago. Notice all the crowds?? It's always like that. Wow. Do I love it.
"What does this have to do with politics?" (I'm sure jw is wondering) Well, I'll tell you.
On the way home from the lovely beach day, we got stuck in Milwaukee rush hour traffic. Harley Davidson is also celebrating its 110th birthday with some kind of hoopla and there are bikes EVERYWHERE. On the way to the lake we saw people on overpasses holding signs that said "Welcome Home Harley Riders". (Personally, I was wondering how incredibly slow their lives must be to want to spend their day holding signs on an overpass.) So...when we saw more signs on the overpass on the way home...I didn't think much of it. But they were different:
Actually, I didn't snap THAT pic. That's one I stole from the website whose address I read on the sign we did see: www.overpasses.org.
Apparently, there is a whole group of people who enjoy spending their days hanging out on overpasses, and perhaps they're not AS crazy as I had thought. Their webpage certainly made some valid points. If you have some time on your hands, maybe you'd like to join them. I imagine it's a lot more fun now than it will be in February :) Have you seen any signs like these on your overpasses?
(Political enough, jw? :)
(I just had to put in the part about the beach to make y'all jealous)
Yes, seen them here in the Richmond, VA area. Lot's of impeach Obama and 2A stuff. I'm sure it will not be long until it comes out that they are all Koch Bros. supported raaacists!
ReplyDeleteI can see the attraction of a nice secluded beach, but personally, if I'm going to sit along a deserted stretch of lakeshore, I prefer to be high in the Sierra, breathing the clean mountain air, where the stars at night are so bright you could almost read by them. Maybe catching some trout to grill over the campfire.
ReplyDeleteThat's about the only thing I miss about California.
so, it isn't really about a beach? :(
ReplyDeletewhy, might i ask?
for i am truly a son of the beach.
the right beach can make a bishop kick a hole in a stained glass window.
Interesting phraseology. :)
DeleteDo you like my beach? I sure do. I took Heinlein with me today.
I am completely jealous of Heinlein.
ReplyDeleteI've actually been to the beach along Lake Michigan once. Something about the wind & the quiet crash of the waves... going close to the water's edge and taunting the lake to get your feet wet... one of the happiest times of my life.
