This is the day when we celebrate moms of all types, but I would like to point out three that don't get as much credit as I think they should.
The first is stay-at-home moms. In today's world, they seem to be looked down on as quaint or as slaves to the patriarchy. In truth, they form the backbone of society, raising their children with love to become productive citizens. I know his doesn't include EVERY stay at home mom, but I believe the vast majority deserve a lot of praise for making he politically unpopular choice and doing what they believe to be right. It takes a lot of ovaries to go against predominant public opinion and they are up to the challenge.
The second type of mom is the birth mom.A lot of society also looks down on them, wondering how they could care so little as to give up their child, or at the other end, why they didn't just abort them. A corollary is that adoptive moms don't always get as much credit as they deserve, but a lot of times, people don't even know they've adopted, so they miss the criticism. Personally, I have one of both and am grateful to each of them for he life they've given me.
Lastly, there's the mothers who have had miscarriages and stillbirths. If you know one of these, you know that the devastation is that of losing a child, not just shedding a clump of cells. I know a woman who believes that God needs us to be born of woman, but our life doesn't necessarily have to be long, so these children have filled the requirement they needed to achieve.I don't know if it's any comfort, but my church believes that through faith, parents of children lost in this world will be able to raise them to adulthood in the next. It's a beautiful thought.
Anyway, Happy Mother's Day to all you good mothers out there. May your day be beautiful and wonderful.
